GHS, Globalized and Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals

Our country is in the process of implementing this model, so that companies and their workers have all the tools for its interpretation. In February 2021, Regulation N°57 related to the labeling of Hazardous Substances and Mixtures was approved.

The GHS, Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) is a global initiative to promote uniform criteria for the classification and labeling of chemicals that will serve to define and communicate the physical, health and environmental hazards involved, as well as protective measures, on labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in a logical and comprehensive manner.

The main objective of GHS is to protect human health and the environment by providing users and handlers of chemicals and mixtures with improved and consistent information on chemical hazards.

GHS labeling at Austral Chemicals

The GHS label is a basic means of informing the user of the hazards and safety precautions of a chemical product, and consists of a set of written, printed or graphic information elements, which are affixed, printed or affixed directly to the container or outer packaging of the chemical or mixture.

Austral Chemicals updated all its labels to comply with the GHS standard. They contain the signal words, hazard statements, GHS symbols, precautionary statements, product and supplier identification and supplementary information (instructions for use...).

In addition, Austral Chemicals now uses a high quality label with a special film for chemicals. Our adhesive labels offer perfect adhesion to metal, plastic and cardboard surfaces, which is ideal for all our chemical containers, such as drums, drums, bottles, sacks or IBCs.

Austral Chemicals labels are able to withstand the harsh conditions that chemical labels are often exposed to. This is essential for the safety pictograms, which mark the hazard. The labels are tear-resistant, so they are resistant to water or other liquids, scratches and impacts.

In addition, they comply with BS5609 of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code. The standard stipulates that any chemical substance that is transported by sea must be identified with a label that guarantees resistance to adverse climatic changes and the permanence and durability of the label material and adhesive, as well as the resistance of the ink and the printed image, for 3 months under water without immersion. In order to comply with BS5609 in its 3 sections, a relationship between material, ink and adhesive is then established. Ink alone is not compatible.
