Only 9% of the world's conventional plastic has been recycled. Plastic mainly ends up in landfills or incinerated. We must promote materials with more sustainable end-of-life options.
As a distributor of compostable raw materials, we have adhered to the Third Clean Production Agreement (APL III): “Promoting the circular economy and the sustainability of compostable plastics”, promoted by Corfo's Sustainability and Climate Change Agency and CENEM.
This APL seeks to implement actions and improvements that promote the enhancement of the circularity and sustainability of companies throughout the value chain of the production of compostable plastics. The initiative is supported by the Ministry of the Environment, the Chilean Gastronomy Association and Fundación Chile.
One of the main goals is to implement a pilot program for the collection and recovery of compostable plastics that involves the entire value chain. With Marcela Krause, responsible for this project in our company, we will reinforce the work we do with our two partners: Total Energies Corbion in the development of the Luminy® PLA line, bio-based, compostable and recyclable plastics, and Sukano in the development of additives that facilitate the manufacturing processes of compostable products.
In addition, this agreement is very important for our company, which, through our Austral Food Safety division, is involved in the food processing industry and the food industry.
