Austral Chemicals put sustainability at the heart of their decision-making for the sake of humanity. Therefore, every day our team fosters sustainable and environmentally-responsible consumption and production patterns. In June 2021 we embraced the so-called « 3R » approach : Austral Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, to ensure that waste generation and management is as sustainable as possible.
Within the scope of this project, we launched a recycling program and collected cardboard in a dedicated drop-off container. We started to work with Sorepa, an affiliate of CMPC to recover the waste. It is then recycled by CMPC factories to manufacture corrugated cardboard and tissue paper.
We were thinking to collect 1000 kg annually but finally ended with 2000 kg. The EPA (Agencia de Protección Ambiental in EE.UU.) says that we save 17 trees for every ton of cardboard that is recycled. As a small company we are proud to bring our stone to the building and be part of the Chilean wood circular economy.
Circular economy? This is all the more real as we also deliver chemicals to CMPC for the manufacture of cardboard and we recover polyethylene IBCs for reuse.
